Zelda to Netflix is a rumor that just wont die. From pranks to fan theories, the idea of Nintendo entering the foray of movies and television has been thoroughly dissected. Many believe that it will never happen again, and that the scar of the Super Mario Bros. movie still runs too deep. Even the people with connections to the company openly scoff at the idea of any Nintendo IP coming to a screen near you.
Then this happened:
Adi Shankar the man behind the post out right states that a Japanese gaming company is making moves to release a series. Before we get too excited, who is this guy and why to we care? Well he would happen to be the producer of the Netflix animated series of Castlevania. Not just that, he’s done other projects such as Dredd, and several little shorts such as that underground Power Rangers video that went viral. if you haven’t seen it the link is here.
So now I, The Lost Hylian patiently wait. I wait and dream of which game in the series it could be modeled after. Whether Ocarina of Time, or Link to the Past the possibilities (like the timeline it seems), are endless. It’s not just me, the social media universe is abuzz with the possibilities. Most insiders seem to agree its Zelda to Netflix, and who am I to argue?
So I hope the Japanese gaming company really turns out to be Nintendo, and that the iconic gaming series turns out to be Zelda. I know they had their shot with the Legend of Zelda animated series back in 1989, (I own the series of course.) Yet times have changed, and Zelda is having a rebirth of sorts with Breath of the Wild. No better time than the present to strike while the irons hot.
To be fair I would still be happy if it was Mario, or Metroid. The latter fits better with Adi’s known style from my perspective. Yet honestly any Nintendo IP would be great and open the door for others if done right. November 16th we will know for sure, until then its just a waiting game.
I just hope that when the day comes and the title is announced, that “The Legend of” is at the front of the name.
Do you think its finally happening, that Zelda is coming to the small screen? Do you think there are better IP’s suited to Adi Shankar’s talents? Let me know the comment section down below, or you can discuss in our wonderful forums.
Some say he is a leaf on the wind, others say he is the wind beneath their wings. Either way he is a huge Nintendo fan and has been gaming since the age of 8. One part Jedi Master, and two parts Starfleet Redshirt he has been known to quiet the ocean and make mountains sit. He comes to you now to share in all things Nintendo.
