We have all been clamoring for cloud saves for quite some time now and we were all happy to hear that the Switch Online services would include the feature when it releases next month. The feature will allow for the backup of game save files so if your system was ever lost, damaged, or stolen you will still have a full backup of your game saves so when you get a replacement system you can pick up where you left off.
Other services from Microsoft and Sony have long been in place with Nintendo holding out, a move that many have called Nintendo out on due to it being a basic, standard feature for other like-services especially in this age of technology.
While Nintendo hasn’t detailed out how this feature will work, Diablo III associate producer Matt Cederquist has taken the liberty to lay out how the save feature will work:
He also stated that with Diablo III achievements would also go straight to the cloud. Whether or not this entails that Switch Online will have an achievements system as Microsoft and Sony offer on their respective consoles is unknown but in this case it is more than likely game specific due to Diablo III already having one in place.
It is also not clear if the way Cederquist detailed cloud saves will work the same across all games or just Diablo III specifically.
