NPD Charts for July 2018

The NPD Group has released the top sales numbers charts for the gaming industry and there are some surprising results!

Topping the charts for software across all platforms is none other than Octopath Traveler, a game that has been garnering much attention and for good reason.

Software (represents sales by dollar amount; not units sold)

  5. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild*

  9. Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege
  10. Mario Tennis Aces *
  11. FIFA 18**
  12. Lego Incredibles
  13. God of War (2018)

While Octopath Traveler was number 1 for the month of July it has yet to break into the top 10 best-sellers for the past 12 months:

As for hardware sales, NPD analyst Mat Piscatella had this to say:

“Nintendo Switch was July’s best-selling hardware platform in both dollars and units sold. This is the seventh month that Switch has led in hardware dollar sales since launching in March 2017, and the first since December 2017. Unit sales of Nintendo hardware in July 2018 reached its highest point for a July month since 2009.”
