There is no doubt that Octopath Traveler has been a huge success on the Switch. It has garnered so much attention from other platforms’ fanboys that there has actually been backlash that it is a Nintendo Switch exclusive.
The good news is that Square Enix has confirmed, themselves, that it will indeed remain a Switch exclusive and to be quite frank, we are ecstatic! That will only drive more support for our favorite console! It is about time that something other than first party titles are exclusive when there are so many titles on the other platforms that will never grace a Nintendo console.
Square Enix recently had this to say in regards to the success of Octopath Traveler and future Switch support:
-Sales stronger than firm’s pre-sales forecast; exceeded expectations especially in U.S. & Europe
– Higher-than-average ratio of download version vs packaged
– Their analysis on success: more appreciation to JRPG in recent years, game design that appeals to old Square Enix game fans, new elements including HD-2D, attractive characters etc.
-Will have similar games coming from them
-Octopath will remain Switch exclusive, where appropriate for forthcoming entries
