Details Emerge On How Mail Works In Animal Crossing

Have you ever sent mail to one of your residents in Animal Crossing and wondered why you got either a negative letter back or a great letter back and sometimes with a gift?  It’s little questions like these that will drive someone crazy thinking about the algorithm behind them especially when your letter was sent with good intentions but you got such a crappy response back!  These are programmed characters, after all, and we have always believed them to be random.  No way they are actually reading your mail!

Well, my fellow Animal Crossers, wonder no more!  James Chambers, a software security researcher, was recently asked on Twitter if he could shed some light on what is actually taking place when you send your favorite animal some mail.  He dove right in and after much testing and digging he supplied a VERY detailed answer!

That is a whole lot of detail if you really care about getting a good score on your letters!  It is insane to think about what kind of algorithms are programmed for a such a simple mechanic in a game!  Really shows the amount of detail and work that goes into these titles!

Did you play Animal Crossing: New Leaf or any of the prior installments?  Are you wishing for an Animal Crossing on the Switch?  We sure are!  Chat at us in the comments below or feel free to drop a new topic in our Community forums!
