Nintendo Playroom’s August Most Wanted

August 6, 2018

It’s August and with that comes many great titles!  These titles include:

  • Dead Cells (Motion Twin, August 7th)
  • Flipping Death (Zoink, August 7th)
  • Overcooked 2 (Team17, August 7th)
  • Minit (Devolver Digital, August 9th)
  • Okami HD (Capcom, August 9th)
  • 2064: Read Only Memories (MidBoss, August 14th)
  • Polygod (Krafted Games, August 17th)
  • Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate (Capcom, August 28th)
  • de Blob 2 (THQ Nordic, August 28th)
  • Velocity 2X (Curve Digital, ‘August’)
  • Manual Samuel (Curve Digital, ‘August’)
  • Dragon Ball FighterZ beta (Bandai Namco, ‘August’)

Okami HD ranks high on our list but one title narrowly edges it out for our most wanted for this month and that title is (if the post image hasn’t given it away just yet) Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate!

My (SourceCode) first introduction to the series was back on the Wii with Monster Hunter Tri.  I eventually ended up picking up Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate and I was instantly hooked!  Everything just “clicked” well with me and I loved the RPG elements.  About the only quip I had with the title was the underwater mechanics, but fortunately this was left out in later installments to the franchise.

Teaming up with other players online to take out a large beast is such an exhilarating experience as well.  Eventually, if you play with same people enough (like forming a clan) you begin to learn each others’ play styles and become a more tightly knit team.  It truly is thrilling!

The various armor and weapons the game offers keeps you engaged (and a tad addicted) in the game as you seek out and take down beasts for parts needed for that particular armor set or weapon.

The story is usually lacking but if you are playing Monster Hunter for the story then you are playing it for all the wrong reasons.  It really shines with the online aspect and ultimately, the gameplay, itself, is a really deep experience.

Okami has always been one of my favorite games, if not for the aesthetics and the story alone, nevermind gameplay (which is comparable to Zelda) but when compared to Monster Hunter the experience doesn’t strike you as deep.

So, do I see, perhaps,  an official Nintendo Playroom clan in near future?….**I’m gonna lose so many hours of my life playing this…**
