Minecraft Movie Loses Director

Have you been looking forward to the Minecraft movie?  Unfortunately there has been a snag in the production.

The film was originally revealed way back in 2014 with a scheduled release date of May 2019.  This no longer seems the case with reports that the director/co-writer of the film, Rob McElhenny, is leaving the production.  This really comes as a blow to the film as it is now reported that Masters of the Universe (the 2019 adaption, not the 1987 film with Dolph Lundgren) directors Aaron and Adam Nee will be re-writing the script.

This apparently isn’t the first director to leave this project either.

Movies based on games have had a long and troubled history and unfortunately it seems that it is no different for Minecraft.

Have you been following the production of this film?  How do you feel about videogame movies in general?  Let’s chat in the comments below or in our Community forums!
